LAHORE – The 72nd death anniversary of poet-philosopher Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal will be observed with all reverence and respect throughout the country on Wednesday (today).
On the day, Quran Khwani would be held throughout the country and special prayers would be offered for the great Poet of the East. Dr Muhammad Iqbal died on 21st April, 1938 at the age of 60.
Special programmes, seminars, speeches and debates will be held at government and private level to pay homage to the services of Dr Iqbal. The newspapers would publish special editions and PTV and private TV channels would air different programmes to mark the death anniversary of Dr Iqbal. Iqbal is believed to be a Sufi poet of modern age. As a politician, he gave the concept of Pakistan ideology which he presented in 1930, the same ideology resulted in the independence of Pakistan. Though he died before the independence of Pakistan, yet he is regarded as the national hero of Pakistan.
Bang-e-Dara, Baal-e-Jabreel, Zarb-e-Kaleem and Payam-e-Mashriq are some of his great books.
In City, a special ceremony would be held at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Nazria Pakistan that would be presided over by Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
ISLAMABAD: Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal floated the ides of a welfare state and democracy, said Justice (r) Dr Javed Iqbal.
He was addressing the Iqbal Day function at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) as the chief guest on Tuesday.
He said Islam was strictly against the monarchy and dictatorship, as democracy was the only the acceptable ruling system. He said unfortunately neither the suggestions of Islamic Ideological Council (IIC) had been presented in the parliament for debate nor the religious leaders had taken steps for Islamic legislation.
Defining the term secularism, he said Islam gave everyone the freedom of worship according to his belief and religion and fundamental rights to pass his life according to religious civil laws.
Justice Iqbal said they should pay more attention to prose than the poetry of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal to find solution to the problems of according to the present era.
